DOXITIN 100 mg tablet and DOXITIN 150 mg tablet

1. WHAT DOXITIN -TABLETS ARE AND WHAT THEY ARE USED FOR

DOXITIN -tablets contains doxycycline which is an antibiotic. Doxycycline inhibits the vital functions of the microbes susceptible to doxycycline and causes the death of the microbes.
DOXITIN -tablets are used in the treatment of the infections caused by bacteria susceptible to doxycycline. The most important indications are respiratory tract infections (e.g. pneumonia, bronchitis), urinary tract and genitals infections and skin infections (e.g. acne, borrelios). 


2. BEFORE YOU USE DOXITIN-TABLETS

Do not use DOXITIN -tablets
-  if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to doxycycline, to the other tetracyclines or any of the other ingredients of DOXITIN -tablets.
- if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

DOXITIN-tablets should not be given to children under 8-years of age.


Take special care with DOXITIN -tablets if
- you are likely to be exposed to direct sunlight or if you are using the sun bed because DOXITIN -tablets can sensitize skin to sunlight.

Taking other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you are using or you have recently used, also from those, which can get without prescription. Using the other medicines at the same time may have an effect for DOXITIN -tablets.

It is advisable to have at least one hour interval after administration of DOXITIN -tablets before administration of antacids, calcium, magnesium or iron containing products because these medicines may decrease effect of DOXITIN -tablets.
 
Concomitant use of DOXITIN -tablet may decrease effect of oral contraceptives.

Concomitant use of DOXITIN and penicillines or cephalosporines decreases the effect of both antibiotics.

Probenecide prohibit excretion of DOXITIN -tablets.

DOXITIN-tablets may increase the effect of anticoagulants.

Alcohol, phenobarbital, phenytoin and carbamazepines increase excretion of DOXITIN -tablets.


Taking DOXITIN -tablets with food and drinks
Milk products significantly decrease absorption of doxycycline. It is advisable to have at least one hour interval after administration of DOXITIN -tablets before administration of milk products.
It isadvisable to take DOXITIN -tablets after meal with plenty of liquid.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
DOXITIN -tablets should not be used during pregnancy and lactation. Doxycycline may cause injury for teeth and bones during the period of development (during pregnancy).

Driving and using machines
DOXITIN -tablets does not effect on ability to drive or to use machines.

3. HOW TO USE DOXITIN TABLETS

Always take DOXITIN exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Dose is adjusted individually and it´s depended on the infection being treated. You should take DOXITIN -tablet with standing or while sitting and well before retiring to bed so it will prevent irritation of the oesophagus.

If you take more DOXITIN -tablets than you should
In case of over dosage you should take contact immediately a physician or hospital emergency room or Poison Information Centre (tel. 09-471 977 or exchange 09-4711).

If you forget to take DOXITIN -tablet
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet, you should continue to take according to the recommended dosage.

If you  have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Like all medicines DOXITIN -tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The most commonly side effects are nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea. More rare side effects are skin symptoms such as drug rash, urticaria and hypersensitivity to sun light and UV-irradiation, irritation of oesophagus and fungal infection.
Contact your doctor immediately if you get following symptoms during the medication or soon after that:
- swelling of face and/or pharynx, difficulty in breathing and itchy rash
- intense and/or bloody diarrhoea
If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet,  please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

5. HOW TO STORE DOXITIN -TABLETS

Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Store below 25ºC.
Do not use DOXITIN -tablets after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
 
6. FURTHER INFORMATION

What DOXITIN - tablets contains
- The active substance is doxycycline 100 mg or 150 mg in one tablet.
- The other ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose, saccharin sodium, croscarmellose sodium, povidone and magnesium stearate.

DOXITIN -tablets are lactose free.

What DOXITIN -tablets looks like and contents of the pack
DOXITIN 100 mg:
Tablets are yellow or greenish yellow, round, convex tablet with score. Diameter 9 mm.
DOXITIN 150 mg:
 Tablets are yellow or greenish yellow, round, convex tablet with score. Diameter 11 mm.

Package sizes
8, 10 and 50 tablets.
All package sizes are not necessary in market.
