chlorhexidine and benzocaine
Toncils Blackcurrant lozenges are used to disinfect the mouth and throat in adults and children aged 7 years and over. The active substance chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum disinfectant, which is effective against most of the microbial species that occur in the mouth. It is effective against several bacteria, yeasts, dermatophytes and lipophilic viruses. Chlorhexidine is ineffective against bacterial spores. The other active substance benzocaine is a local anaesthetic, which onset of action is fast and which effects last for 5-15 minutes. Toncils lozenges are ineffective in tonsillitis caused by streptococci.
For children aged under 7 years only according to the doctor’s instructions. If you are not sure that you can take the product ask your pharmacist for advice, especially if you suffer from inherited fructose intolerance, you have glucose-galactose malabsorption or you suffer from phenylketonuria.
