Ferrodan Fe2+ 50 mg

Description

Ferrodan Fe2+ 50 mg is a prolonged-release tablet with iron and vitamin C. The tablet releases iron for six hours in the gut. Vitamin C enhances the absorption of iron. A source of iron, ferrous(II)bisglycinate, is a chelate of iron and glycine amino acid from which iron is well absorbed and has a high bioavailibity in the body. In addition, ferrous(II)bisglycinate is well tolerated and non-irritating in the stomach and gut, causing much less adverse effects than other iron compounds.

Iron is essential in formation of normal red blood cells and hemoglobin. Hemoglobin in red blood cells carries oxygen from lungs to tissues. Lack of iron leads to low hemoglobin and can cause anemia, which causes tiredness and fatigue, fast heart beat, pale face, shortness of breath and dizziness. The main reason for low hemoglobin is chronic bleeding due to heavy menstrual periods in women or bleeding into the stomach or gut in men.

Best sources of iron in the diet are meat and fish food with vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin C. Iron intake from the diet is adequate in men but in many women the intake is constantly insufficient. Low hemoglobin is commonly experieced and use of iron supplement may be needed in pregnancy and lactation, if one is having heavy menstrual periods or celiac disease, for training athletics, and during growth spurt in children.

Food supplement is not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
